How do you know you’ve done enough?

This is the last week of the year I will be working.

I need a break. My pace has been exhausting the last few months, and I look forward to returning in January, renewed and reinvigorated.

I can’t wait to spend time with my family over the holidays. We will do some cooking projects, take some adventures, and try to enjoy one another’s company.

Critical to my ability to be present with them so that I can listen to them and enjoy their company is that when I’m done on Friday, I can turn off my computer and let my business rest for a couple of weeks.

I need to know that, come Friday afternoon, I’ve done enough.

There’s always more to do.

The problem with owning a business is that I can always do more. I can always work harder, complete one more project, or write some of these emails to “get ahead.”

Over the weekend, I took inventory and made a list of the few things that absolutely must be completed by Friday at 5 PM. Then, I made a plan to make sure that I could get those done this week.

I created a list that, once completed, means I’ve done enough.

What’s enough for you this week?

How will you give yourself permission to “shut down” and take a break?
