“Keep going…”
“You can have anything you want if you are willing to ask 1,000 people for it.” ~ Byron Katie
When I first started my business, I worked with a sales trainer. He told me, “Get 30 appointments in your first 90 days, and you’ll have a thriving consulting business.”
I didn’t know any better, so I believed him.
I worked my ass off to find 30 prospects who were willing to work with me, and I went out to meet with all of them.
The first appointment was someone I’d been talking to for a while. My new sales training helped me to close the deal with this guy.
I’m one-for-one.
The second appointment was a cold call. I didn’t know her at all. I went through the sales process and got to my closing line, “Would you like to talk about how we can work together to solve these problems?” She said, “Yes!”
I was two-for-two.
I then went on 27 more appointments over the next four months and I didn’t close a thing. I went from 2-for-2 to 2-for-29.
I did everything my coach asked, and I didn’t have anything near a thriving consulting business!
His advice to me?
“Keep going.”
What brilliant insight! I can’t believe I was paying good money for this kind of advice.
But it worked.
I closed the next appointment and the one after that. It wasn’t long before I had a thriving consulting business.
