Getting Unblocked

On Tuesday, we talked about your biggest block.

What is the one thing in the way of taking your business from an 8 (on a 1-to-10 scale) to a 29 or 100? How could you blow away your expectations and radically improve your life and business?

I heard back from some of you with some insightful thoughts about what’s blocking your progress. (If you didn’t read Tuesday’s conversation, take a minute now to think about it.)

How do I fix that?

When I’ve been working with clients who uncover their biggest blocks, the next thing out of their mouths is usually, “But how do I fix that?

My answer to them can be a letdown; I always tell them, “I don’t know.” (Yeah, folks spend big money for that kind of acumen, right?)

But here’s the secret, even if I do know how to fix it, I tell them I don’t. Because they do!

Let me show you an example.

Make a lemon meringue pie.

In last week’s Great British Bake Off, Prue Leith gave the bakers a recipe for which the entire method was “Make a lemon meringue pie.” (Stay with me, I promise it’s relevant.)

Method: Make a lemon meringue pie.

When she came in to review the offerings on the gingham altar, she exclaimed, “See, you didn’t need a recipe. You’ve all made a lemon meringue pie!

Every one of them successfully made a pie, some of them had never made a lemon meringue pie, but even they produced a result.

Start before you know.

If you want to do something powerfully enough, you will find a way to do it. You will take the first step (in this case, make a shortbread crust). Then you will figure out the next step.

Saying, “I don’t know how,” or waiting until you have the perfect plan, or have lined up all the resources, are just places you are hiding. Ways you are avoiding doing the work to make your life better.

You don’t need a recipe to get unblocked; you need to take the next right step.

What’s the clear first step to getting unblocked? Can you start on that today?
